Which exam should you start with?
CompTIA A+
CompTIA A+ takes two exams, Core 1 and Core 2, and CompTIA requires both to come from the same version. Many learners start with Core 1 because it covers hardware and networking fundamentals that Core 2 assumes, but CompTIA lets you take them in either order.
CompTIA Network+
CompTIA recommends earning CompTIA A+ and getting some hands-on networking experience first. If you're already comfortable with addressing, switching, and the command-line tools technicians use, CompTIA Network+ is a single exam.
When CompTIA updates an exam
CompTIA usually retires an exam version about three years after it launches and publishes new objectives beforehand. When that happens, CertLighthouse maps its questions to the new objectives, retires the ones that no longer fit, and keeps both versions available through CompTIA's overlap period.
Every question carries its exam code, so you always know which version you're practicing for.
